Introduction

I don't buy a lot of ReAction figures, or any figures from Funko or Super7. But occasionally there will be something I just can refuse, something that's so cute, so great looking on the peg that I fall for it.

Such is the case with Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I spotted the weasels on the pegs at Target, and I knew this was a set I'd be picking up. There's five in the set - Roger Rabbit, Jessica Rabbit, Judge Doom, Stupid Weasel, and Smarty Weasel.

You can find these at multiple retailers, and can expect to pay around $20 each.

Packaging - ***1/2
The packaging on these is terrific. In fact, I'd say it's more than half the reason I bought them. The colors and graphics snagged me, and I have only one real complaint - they aren't collector friendly. Of course, you don't really expect them to be, but it holds them back from a perfect score.

Sculpting - Jessica, Doom ***; Smarty, Stupid, Roger ***1/2
These are between 3 and 4" tall, depending on which character you're talking. The two weasels really caught my eye first, and I think the ReAction style really works well with them. The detail is about right for the animated style, and there's a lot of fun personality in the designs.

Roger is great as well, although the style does mean he's a bit stumpier than he was in the movie. Still, the expression is excellent, and the overall design captures the feel of the character.

Jessica and Judge Doom are less impressive. Doom is a very basic figure, but the glasses look good, and the costume layers add some detail.

Jessica is even more basic, with a smooth outfit and little detail. What is here is added by the paint. It's also unfortunate, but the sculpt and articulation don't work well together, making it almost impossible to keep her standing without assistance.

Paint - ***
The paint on all five figures is a bit wonky, with rough edges here and there.

For example, the lips on Jessica aren't particularly clean, and the tops of the gloves are sloppy. The edges on buttons, chains, clothes, and other details tend to show bleed and errors across the set.

On the plus side, I do like the sparkly effect on Jessica's dress, the use of both matte and gloss black on the Judge helps add some visual interest to his costume, and the eyes on all five are nicely done.

Articulation - Jessica *1/2; the rest **1/2
I mentioned that Jessica has trouble standing. Without bending her a bit at the waist, getting her to stay upright is pretty much impossible. I used some Quake Putty in a couple of the shots where she is a bit straighter. When all you have is a cut neck, cut shoulders, and cut hips, not being able to stand is a serious issue. Of course, her neck is pretty limited thanks to the long sculpted hair.

Then we have the others. With their big, flat feet, Roger, Smarty, and Stupid have no problems standing. Like Jessica, they are limited to neck, shoulder and hip articulation.

Accessories - Jessica, Roger, Doom **; Smarty, Stupid **1/2
Each figure comes with one extra.

Roger has a set of handcuffs, that he can't wear on both arms. Jessica has the frying pan with the indented face of Roger in it, but it doesn't fit over the Roger face sculpt. And Doom has a cartoon shoe, which can't stand up on it's own.

The Weasels do a bit better, one getting a baseball bat, the other a plunger, which they can at least hold.

Fun Factor - **1/2
I'd never say ReAction figures were really fun - there's not much posing, and there's not much in the way of accessories. But get enough of them together and they can make an interesting display.

Value - *1/2
At $20 each, these are a pretty tough sell. Considering the quality we get with 4" figures from Hasbro and Mattel these days, and the quality you get in a much larger figure from NECA for about ten bucks more, the price won't be a reason you buy these. Instead, you'll cringe at the cost, but buy them because of the character choice and license.

Things to Watch Out For -
Not a thing - they're sturdy and well made, with little chance of breakage. The handcuffs are a little thin though, so take a bit of care when you put them on one of his wrists.

Overall - Jessica, Doom **; Smarty, Stupid, Roger **1/2
Roger and the Weasels were the winners here for me, but they still have their issues. While I love the sculpts and the paint work is reasonable, the price point with so few useful accessories still make them a tough sell.

For Judge Doom and Jessica Rabbit, those same issues exist, but the articulation and lack of detail hurt them further. I'm glad I picked them up simply because there's so very little Roger Rabbit items out there, but it's still a tough sell. In fact, I've been waffling around on the McBain set, but after opening these five, I'm less likely to buy them.
