Medicom VCD Yoda

Just in case you were wondering, things around here don't always operate like the well oiled machine they appear to be.  In truth, it's a wonder they operate at all.  And while it might come as a shock to you (unless you're my wife, or boss, or family member, or co-worker...), I occasionally screw up.  I managed to forget that Jeff was working on a Yoda review, but he was kind enough to still submit a trimmed down version nonetheless.  So what's your thoughts on the little bugger, Jeff?

Thanks as always to Michael, and sorry for the confusion and delay in getting this review to you. I shall keep this brief, it’s an edited version as due to a slight misunderstanding I had started my review of this figure and taken some photo’s when all of a sudden I saw Adam Hughes fantastic review hit the news stands (well, Michaels web site…but it might as well be the news stands if you’re a toy collector).
And boy what a review it was, totally comprehensive and said everything I could have wanted to say about this cool figure and irritatingly said it a bit better than I could.

On top of that it became instantly apparent that Adam was quite the shutterbug as well, with non-too shoddy Photo-Shop skills. I had to ask my self was it even worth putting my attempt forward, but then I realized I had one ace up my sleeve.

For those of you under 18 or with a delicate disposition you’d better turn away now, as that ace is Yoda porn!  If you’ve been wondering all these years just what does go on under the robes of an 900 year old Jedi love machine….look no further. It goes without saying that Adam pretty much nailed the spec on this guy and my opinions only differ slightly in a couple of places. So before my review turns into a review of Adams review lets press on.

Packaging - **3/4
Compact, black, in keeping with what has gone before. Not exciting but classy and as Mr Hughes said, it stands out in a less is more kind of way.

Sculpting - ****
I can’t add anything here that hasn’t already been said. Faultless and IMHO is as good, no, better than a lot of far more expensive and bigger statues out there. Basically if you’re a fan of the little green guy this is a MUST HAVE!

Paint - ***1/2
Ditto to Adams review, just about as good as it gets, I take his point on the eyes but I’d go for an extra ½ a star.

Articulation - **
Well we all new this was a VCD and not an RAH when we placed our orders, but I was still hoping for a little more articulation, I was praying they might surprise us with ball hips, shoulders and maybe even cut elbows, knees and ankles…I hoped for too much…sigh! That said the ‘limited’ articulation we do get is great. The head/neck has a great swivel range and the wrists attach in the same way as all other RAH’s. The arms can rotate at the shoulder…but that’s it!
However as Medicom have visited Vader twice perhaps they’ll give us a more nimble version of Yoda’s younger self from Ep’s I, II and III, at a mere 875’ish years old.

Outfit - ***1/2
I’d have liked to have seen this outfit frayed and dirtied up a little more, but the tailoring on his outer robe and the wire running round the hem of his inner robe drag another ½ a star out of me, cos hey, if I want him dirty I can make him dirty.

Accessories - **
I guess this incarnation really only needs his Gimer stick, but a food bowl and spoon wouldn’t have gone amiss to accompany his lamp and cigar…sorry turd…I mean food stick.

Fun Factor - ***
That limited articulation and weighty Medicom price tag mean this figure is ‘yet another’ aimed at your serious collector, rather than your casual impulse buyer and certainly not kids. It’s a shame as a lot of kids would get plenty of play value out of him. But us big kids will find playing with it just as much fun so go and get little Jimmy one of the old Hasbro versions, they were actually pretty good….not in this class, but pretty good!

Value - ***
I got mine for £40 inc shipping and bearing in mind how much Medicom RAH’s go for he’s a fair price. But also bear in mind this is a dedicated 1/6 collector speaking.

Overall - ***1/2
Medicom have delivered the best 1/6’ish Yoda to date…and it may just be the best facial sculpt of ESB Yoda, baring those actually used in the film.

Where to Buy:
Being a limey and not wanting to wait an age, I got mine from my most trusted Hong Kong supplier Charles on eBay (he got it to me 2 days after Christmas), you’ll find him under Charlesay and Kidultgarden. If you’re US based Adam gave some great pointers in his review, and I also see Forbidden Planet will be carrying him.
