8" Nibbler

1/2 out of ****

Moore Action Collectibles has the Futurama license for action figures and collectibles.  The action figures will be coming in the next month or so, but until then we have the 8" Nibbler to tie us over.

Nibbler is the cute little pet that almost destroyed them all.  His voracious appetite is quite a thing to behold, and this version is somewhat close to real size, although it's a little small.

These are available through comic shops and retail outlets like Media Play, Sam Goody, Suncoast Video and other stores that carry collectibles.  The package even says "for display only".  It runs twenty bucks at most places.

Packaging - **1/2
The nicest thing about this figure is the packaging.  Okay, maybe not the nicest, but damn close.  The box has some great text, and fits in with the general tempo and emotion of the show.

Of course there are a couple warnings on the front that don't make too much sense - choking hazard?  I suppose you could tear the third eyeball off the figure if you pulled hard enough.  And 'components to be assembled have sharp edges'?  What components?  What assembly?

Sculpt - ***
Hey, it looks like Nibbler!  The sculpt is decent, although I don't know why two of the three eyes look in one direction, while the top eye looks straight forward.  Overall the sculpt is adequate, and it captures the look of the character.

Value - *
Twenty bucks?  This thing is like those solid, hard plastic banks we had as kids.  With no articulation, and not even a coin slot cut in the back of the head, this baby is headed for Media Play 50 percent off clearance.

Paint - **1/2
The paint ops aren't bad, although the white on the eyes on mine was a bit sloppy, and I looked through several to pick one that had the iris's centered well.  Considering the size of this item, I'd expect better.

Articulation - Bupkis
Not a single point.  I didn't expect much, but arms and neck would have been at least nice.

Accessories - Bupkis.
What can you say.  Nothing with him except the twisty tie that holds him to the insert.  A cloth cape perhaps?  Some dark matter would have been nice.  But we get zippo.

Overall - *1/2
I rarely dislike anything quite this much.  But I think that MAC really has done us a disservice here.  Add arm and neck articulation, a cloth cape, and maybe an accessory or two and this would have been great.  But the quality of this item certainly doesn't warrant anything near twenty bucks.
