Takara Batman

We have a new guest reviewer tonight, Snake Beater!  Let's give him a warm welcome with his first review of the Takara Batman. Take it away, SB!

Hey all, I go by the name Snake Beater, and I am reviewing a much anticipated figure. The Takara Batman in GENX CORE, hot out of Japan. I got mine last week.

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me." A crucial aspect of the new 2005 Batman Begins movie was to make it more gritty and dark. I've always been a fan of Batman, especially the comics and the animated series of the 90's. I was especially into the movies, I loved Tim Burton's first two batman films, but when I saw Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, I thought all hope was lost for the caped crusader. However hope was still hanging on a thread.

The new movie was IMO The ONLY Batman movie to get it right. Great casting, and great directing. What more can you ask? PRODUCTS! thats what, great products.. With Medicom, DC Direct, Hot Toys, Mattel, and Takara all in full force on trying to make the Perfect Batman Begins Figure.

Packaging - **1/2
The Package is an artwork itself. So why not a **** star rate? I'll get to that later. The Package is different from all the other companies. Instead of having that gold/black theme every other company went with, it's more darker with a blue/black finish.

I love the box, but what really pissed me off was the accessories, or how they packed it. The figure itself comes out quite easy, but there is almost no easy way to remove the accessories without cutting something.

Sculpting - ****
The sculpt here is perfect. Both with the Bruce Wayne and Batman head. The Batman Head is DEAD on. It's correct in every way possible. The cowl has a cut in the middle for the ball joint inside. The Batman sculpt is also screen accurate, rather than then the Hot Toys Batman which is a bit off. The Hot Toys Batman's head sculpt seems too forced to try to look like Batman.

The Bale/Wayne sculpt is dead on also, yes it is simple, but the simplicity brings out the sculpt to a nice finish. The likeness is great on the head sculpt. It looks like Christian Bale.

Paint - ****
There isn't much paint on this figure. Just on the Bale Head, Batman Head, and the accessories. No slops here, none on the accessories either. The Bale head has 3 shades of brown on the hair. Dark Brown, Light Brown, and streaks of an even lighter brown, almost blonde. This must reflect on his days of a blonde ( mad I sound?), because if you watched Bale's early films like Empire of The Sun. He plays a young boy who has natural BLONDE hair.

Articulation - ***1/2
This is Takara's NEW Male body under the new line "GENX CORE". It has all the Articulation an average 1/6th scale figure needs and more. This is got to one of the best 1/6th scale bodies on the market. It almost matches the Medicom RAH bodies. What really impressed me about the articulation of the figure, is that the suit doesn't restrict much of it's movement. It can even move it's ankle joints.

I know most of you are wondering "How big is this guy?" Hes fairly big in terms of scale. Actually he is perfect. Hes 12" flat, alittle smaller than your averager SST figure but will fit in well.

Outfit - **1/2
The Suit is made of a thick rubber/latex material. It's soft but yet seems durable. This material is way different from the Medicom and the Hot Toys Batmen. Though it's not as screen accurate as the medicom it sure is better. Though I will admit the finish seems better on the Medicom and HT versions.

The cape was a let down for me. It just seems cheaper than the Medicom's or the HT's cape. It looks great, don't get me wrong, it's just that they could have done better. It drapes over the figure real nice, it seems heavy just like it does in the movie.

Accessories - ****
I would rate this more if I could. Takara went balls out on the accessories. They included the first night out harness, a one hole balacava, the grapple gun, 3 batarangs, and a alternate Bruce Wayne Head.

The acessories are great, and they're to scale, unlike the HT version.

Fun Factor - ****
This figure is actually really fun to play with. with it's extreme flexibility, I was remaking scenes from the movie on my computer desk. Though I wouldn't let my little brother play with it, it would make a great gift for a kid (if you're a billionaire).

Value - **1/2
This is a really expensive figure. Me being 15 I'm surprised I was able to get my hands on one. I bought mine for $140 + $30 shipping on ebay. I guess I was lucky because now it goes up for 200+.

Things to Watch Out For –
DO NOT SCRATCH THE ACESSORIES! I scratched one of my batarangs trying to put it on the belt. Other then that It's a pretty sturdy figure.

Overall - ***3/4
This is by far the BEST Batman Begins figure out there. I like to call it the "Ultimate Batman Begins Figure". heh there are plenty of other companies producing 1/6th BB figures like Medicom, Hot Toys, Mattel, DC Direct but this is my favorite overall.
