DC Direct Elseworlds Kingdome Come
Spectre, Norman McCay and Jade

We have a new guest reviewer tonight, all the way from Brazil - Laercio!  Take it away, Laercio...

These figures arrived at comic shops a few weeks ago, but if you collect DC Direct figures here, in Brazil, you have to spend lots of money with shipping, and wai a long time to get your figures delivered.

After wave 3 of DC Direct's Kingdom Come figures, most collectors think we'd never get more figures based on the epic series writen by Mark Waid and painted by Alex Ross. The KC figures sold well, but it looks like DC Direct was afraid of releasing another complete wave of them. So, when they start to release figures based on elseworlds comics, it seemed a good time to get the fans more.

So, after a looong wait, let's start our review of Jade, Norman McCay and the Spectre.

Packaging - ****
Big thanks to DC Direct for releasing these in the same style of boxes of the other KC waves. Even knowing the other Elseworlds figures used clamshells. The design of the boxes fits perfectly with the rest of the KC collection. One of my favorite packages ever.

Sculpting - ****
Congratulations to Tim Bruckner (Spectre and Norman McCay) and Karen Palinko (Jade). The sculpts on these figures is just perfect! They're perfect 3D versions of Alex Ross work.

Not just the sculpt is excellent, scale is great with all of them. I included a group pic to let you compare all of the KC figures scale.

Norman McCay should get an extra *. One of the best Tim Bruckner's sculpt ever! Tons of details on cloth, skin texture, hair, beard. You should take a close look at this figure to believe me.

Spectre used the KC Flash body with a new head and one really cool cape. Unfortunately, the cape prevent it's articulation to work (but that's another review item). He come with a special base that makes the figure look as it's feet don't touch the ground.

Jade looks great as well, and is a perfect translation of the source material. Her skirt is made of a really soft plastic and works very well with the articulation.

Paint - ***1/2
After lots of complaints on the previows KC series, I was afraid we could have the same problem with these, but they got the better painting of all the series. Almost perfect, even with all the detail on Norman.

Articulation - Jade ***; Norman McCay **; Spectre *1/2
Like all the KC figures, the sculpt was preserved over the articulation.

Jade has a kind of ball jointed neck, although movement is restricted by the hair sculpting. She also have one ball jointed shoulder (left arm), one cut joint shoulder (right arm, duh!). There's one cut elbow (right arm), a cut forearm (left) and a cut waist.

Norman McCay has a cut jointed neck, shoulders and wrists. Pin jointed elbows, and that's all. No articulation under the waist (hey, he could be your grandfather! What you're waiting for?)

The Spectre has a cut jointed neck, shoulders and hips. The problem here is the the cape gets in the way of all the articulations but the neck and left arm. Not a big problem if you remember that lifting an arm is all the Spectre needs to do in the entire KC series (no kidding!)

Accessories - *
One base for each figure is all you will get, sorry.

Fun Factor - ***1/2
Hey, I'm a BIG Kingdom Come fan. What figure could be funnier to a KC fan?
You will need to judge that by yourselves.

Value - Jade **; Norman McCay and The Spectre ****
Jade is sold by the regular DC Direct price $10 - $15, but the box with Norm and Spectre is sold by the same price, it's two by the price of one (you do the maths).

Overall - ***1/2
The sculpt is awesome and paint is really great.

They could have more articulation, but it would subtract from the sculpt, and in my opinion the sculpt is far more important.

The only point that could be easily improved would be the accessories, unfortunately that has been a weak point for years for DC Direct figures.
